Abbeycroft Leisure has assisted pupils from Samuel Ward in their attempt to climb Scafell Pike (England’s highest mountain, located in the Lake District) to raise money for Children in Need. The kids received expert training sessions and use of the gym at Haverhill Leisure Centre for three months to prepare physically for the climb.
Frank Carn-Pryor, our Explore Outdoor leader, offered his services as mountain guide for the event and provided pre-climb safety advice, kit lists and nutrition information.
The pupils set off in two mini buses on Friday Sept 2nd and camped near the foot of the mountain. On Saturday, the pupils set up off the hill and climbed through the challenging weather, challenging both physically and mentally.
All the youngsters made it to the top, pushing out of their comfort zone and successfully completing a feat which many adults, let alone school-children, have never completed.
All this effort went in solely to raise money for that great cause which is Children in Need, so please help the kids feel their efforts were worthwhile by donating here:
Congratulations again to George, Finlay, Georgia, Romany, Katy, Ella, Nicole, Lucy, Lucy, Sophie, Grace, Izzy
